« We pray to our music as a god »

The Short Chris Rock Show : I’m joined by the guys in Crystal Lake. We’ve got Shinya (Gt.) and Ryo (Vo)…? Yeah, I got it right this time! CRYSTAL LAKE are currently on an European Tour, just hit the UK today, is that right guys? Yeah, welcome to London! How's it going so far for you ?

Ryo : It’s been amazing, and the crowd is insane and yeah, I feel so good to be back.

The short Chris Rock Show : How are you feeling as well Shinya about it?

Shinya : Every night is so fucking crazy, and yeah, (the crowd) is insane.

The Short Chris Rock Show : Alright. For me personally, I discovered you partially because of my brother who’s behind the camera, but we personally discovered you through Phase One’s Remix of DREAMSCAPE which is obviously really really good track both ways ; So I interested to kind find out how that came about, you know have you got a good relationship with him as well like what’s your kind of thing with him as well and will there be any kind of similar collaborations of that kind in the future maybe with him?

Ryo : A friend of mine brought him to Japan, and then I met him in the Backstage in person, and then we talked each other and yeah, we had a good time with him and then, we asked him to Remix our song.

The Short Chris Rock Show : Oh, so you asked him ?

Ryo : Yeah, it was awesome.

The Short Chris Rock Show : What was your kind of first reaction when you heard the Remix ?

Ryo : It was good. The people who didn’t know Phase One, they find him and they're getting into EDM and then the metal, you know.

The Short Chris Rock Show : Oh yeah, it’s a good crossover, that’s like a gateway, kind of drug I suppose for both, CRYSTAL LAKE with the metalcore and the heavy stuff. As well, like EDM with that kind of stuff as well. The guilty pleasure, the EDM stuff as well. So, with the Tour, I’ve seen you're going all the way around Europe, are there any new places that you’re headed to, kind of excited to see and explore or anything you particulary want to see while you’re out here?

Ryo : Hmm… Switzerland. We went there last year and it was so massive and insane, so I can’t wait to see them again.

The Short Chris Rock Show : Have you got anything else Shinya too?

Shinya : Yeah, hmm… I guess, London. Because London was the first place of our UK/Europe Tour (last year). And when we started our show, the crowd sang our lyrics.

The Short Chris Rock Show : How did that feel to have your lyrics that back to you guys?

Shinya : Just surprised.

Ryo : Yeah, we were surprised.

The Short Chris Rock Show : All the way, across the world to the UK, they are all singing back to you. Exciting feeling. So, you recently announced as well you’ve got a New Single coming out in August. It’s called THE CIRCLE. I’ve seen there’s 3 tracks on there including a Remix. Can you tell us a bit more about it ?

Ryo : THE CIRCLE is a metaphor of the band, and we described the band as a cult. We pray to our music as a god. We spread the words all over the world and lead the people, lead the crowd and gradually infecting them with the music.

The Short Chris Rock Music : Yeah, I like that. You’ve also got Masato from COLDRAIN on the track, so you guys good friends with him as well ?

Ryo : Yeah, we toured with them so many times, and we talked each other for a long time to feature our song and then, he said okay and sang on our song.

The Short Chris Rock Show : Did it take you a while to persuade him ?

Ryo : Yeah.

The Short Chris Rock Show : Well you’ve done a good job there. I’m very excited to hear this new track, purely, because of that as well. So can you recommend, for those who’ve never really listened to Japanese metal or that kind of area of music, can you recommend maybe with you guys, obviously being over there, can you recommend us to any upcoming Japanese bands that you guys may know about, that you kind of want to help maybe get over with you eventually ?

Ryo : Endon. It’s noise grind, progressive and experimental. It’s just brutal but so beautiful, beautiful melodies and beautiful lyrics.

The Short Chris Rock Show : You’re playing at UK Tech Fest tomorrow as well, very exciting right? But I’m very sorry I can’t be there but I’m glad that I’m seing you tonight. Will you be taking some time out to watch some of the other bands, or is there anyone in particularly you really want to see ?

Ryo : Heart of a Coward. I’ve been a big fan of them. They changed the singer so many times but, they be doing a great job for a long time so, I can’t wait to see them.

The Short Chris Rock Show : They actually got me back into metal, so glad to know that we can relate on that. What do you think of the new vocalist by the way?

Ryo : I like « no consequence », so I think it’s a good choice.

The Short Chris Rock Show : For those who have never seen a CRYSTAL LAKE’s Live performance, what can we expect from you guys tonight ?

Ryo : Just get up and sing with us, stage dive and show me your emotions, I mean express your emotions.

The Short Chris Rock Show : Yeah, that’s what the music is all about. So lastly, suddenly Japan went out of the World Cup…

(Laughs)

The Short Chris Rock Show : Obviously, it was reported in the news as well the fans cleaned up the stadium after they left, can we expect the same from you guys tonight ?

Ryo : Oh yeah, I think so (laugh). Ok, yeah, we’re gonna clean the venue after the show (laugh).

The Short Chris Rock Show : Anyway, That’s CRYSTAL LAKE, the New Single called THE CIRCLE is coming out in August. Thank you very much guys, I really appreciate it. Nice to meet you and have an amazing show tonight.
