[LIVE REPORT] 2018.06.17 CRYSTAL LAKE「SATANIC CARNIVAL 2018」@ Makuhari Messe, Tokyo (JP)

CRYSTAL LAKE became one of the staple band of the SATANIC CARNIVAL. It’s for the 4th time that CRYSTAL LAKE play a part to SATANIC CARNIVAL for the 2018 edition, which is undoubtedly the most important one for the band, doing his first steps on the main stage « SATAN STAGE » for the first time.

📸 Taka Tallman CRYSTAL LAKE which has been successful in his own Festival « TRUE NORTH FESTIVAL » at Shinkiba Studio Coast ( Check out my Live Report! ) and his first European Tour in October last year, is now driving the heavy and loud music scene. On the second day of SATANIC, I get ready at SATAN STAGE, and I can feel the destructive power emerging from the audience by the strong armor they acquired until today. I can feel today like the beginning of something new again for CRYSTAL LAKE, so I felt totally nervous for them, like if it was me who’s gonna play on stage. Right now, we are making history. They started with PROMETHEUS, which was also the last song they played last year to close their set at EVIL STAGE. Coincidence or not, I found this phase sequence very moving and meaningful.

Ryo (Vo. CRYSTAL LAKE), as leader, pressed the audience immediately, saying : « Raise your fist! Jump! Hands Up! ». The audience firmly grabbed and defended this spirit, making it to the stage. Due to movements, the concentration of the venue is just getting stronger. 「SATANIC, front to back, side to side, everybody, let's fly!」stirring up the crowd, starting 「Matrix」. And, in the middle of the song, IKEPY (Vo. HER NAME IN BLOOD) who just finished to perform on the EVIL STAGE jumped here to face Ryo from heandbanging to scream confrontation, bringing a lot of excitement to the venue. Naturally, circle pit and mosh pit occurred on「Mercury」; « I told you that I will bring you here, last year’s promise was done today! » said Ryo, welcomed by a thunder of cheers and roars from the audience.

The poignant words he uttered last year never left my mind until today… : « I came here to say this, let's make a promise! Next year's SATANIC CARNIVAL, CRYSTAL LAKE will bring everyone here to the main stage. This is what we've now decided by ourselves. So there are two songs left, Crystal Lake's gonna change history to the main stage -SATAN STAGE- ». It gave me goosebumps and made me cry, cause this day was also a special day to me, it was the first time I saw again CRYSTAL LAKE since my come back in Japan. So this year again, this date is also precious to me, because I realize that I followed CRYSTAL LAKE in Japan since 1 year now, and it was the first time I saw them on such a big stage tonight. To have been part to this promise and to be able to see my boys following their dream and growing up to the main stage in 1 year only is really something amazing! I’m so proud of you guys. Then, a heinous heavy sound resonated, raising the temperature of the venue with「Six Feet Under」following by「Ups & Downs」. The elegant, flowing sound of the guitar of Yudai (Gt. CRYSTAL LAKE) made earth tremor and heaviness blending into each other. « In a close future, we will come back to bring you to SATAN STAGE again, we are changing and waiting for it! » said Ryo in his hopefully MC, as evidenced by those words,「Apollo」unleashed a dramatic sound beyond the metal core category and showed a magnificent view like Utopia, expressing as « loud universe ». In the last part, they played the both related songs「Alpha」&「Omega」, with the last one, the brutal「The Fire Inside」as high ending, and during the song, Ryo came into the crowd, and showed the human power to fully control the hearts of all the audience with his scream from the soul. CRYSTAL LAKE's set ends, and I can’t hold my tears being standing in front of a such beautiful scene, feeling relieved for my boys thinking "yes, they finally did it!". From now, there will be a before and after today. They showed what they are really able to do, and despite the audience being still a little bit shy, no doubt they touched new hearts through this amazing performance. 15 years ago, 10 years ago, 5 years ago, today... we don't care about time, the most important thing to remember is : this is CRYSTAL LAKE. Special thanks to SATANIC CARNIVAL for allowing us to live incredible things. Thank you for always making me remember why I say that SATANIC CARNIVAL is the best festival in Tokyo so far! I participated in satanic carnival 2 consecutive years, so see you again next year for sure!
