[LIVE REPORT] 2017.10.21 CRYSTAL LAKE「TRUE NORTH FESTIVAL」~15th Anniversary~ @ Shinkiba Studio Coast

TRUE NORTH FESTIVAL is the Festival headed by CRYSTAL LAKE to celebrate their 15th Anniversary, so it was a big event for the band.

We can find 3 stages, something like the big and main stage「ALPHA STAGE」, the medium stage「OMEGA STAGE」 and the small stage outside「FREE WILL STAGE」. Unfortunately, it was a rainy day, so I thought that the stage outside will probably be threatened because of the bad weather. But I was ready to go to see my "Rainmakers" even under the rain no matter what!

CRYSTAL LAKE planned to open the Festival by "REUNION 2003-2010" inviting the ex-members of the band : Kentaro (Ex-Vocal), Yasuyuki (Ex-Bass) and Yusuke (Ex-Drum). It was such an unique and amazing moment to get the chance to meet the Ex-members of the band. So It was really nice from the current CRYSTAL LAKE's members to realize this event, to see Ex-members and current members sharing the stage together.

The OPEN DOORS was at 12:00 AM, and "REUNION" planned to start at 13:00 PM. I can already see many people lining up from inside to outside for CRYSTAL LAKE’s goods. It was only 12:15 AM, so I finally decided to go to the Merch stand first. I got lucky to get all the goods I wanted to buy.

It was around 12:45 PM, I put all my goods into a locker before to go to FREE WILL STAGE for REUNION. I followed the billboard「FREE WILL STAGE」 outside, when I realized that the stage was finally under a tent. I still don't know if it was because of the bad weather or if it was planned like this since the beginning. But CRYSTAL LAKE REUNION was such an event that the tent was finally too smaller to welcome all the people who wanted to go to see REUNION's show. So the tent was already full, and the STAFF's venue told us to wait outside.

The REUNION's performance was ready to start, when a guy of CRYSTAL LAKE's STAFF told to the guy of the STAFF's venue : "Ok, again 10 people and STOP!". And Thank you so much god again, I got so lucky, because I was the 10th people, the last one to enter in the tent! I felt like bless by my CRYSTAL LAKE's Gods again. There were so many people inside the tent, that I couldn't move on. So I just stayed at the back of the tent. Even If I was a little bit far from the stage, it was really amazing to see this unique performance in Live. REUNION started with「River Of Truth」and it turned into chaos in 1 second! People went totally crazy, the temperature increased immediately and the pit got definitively opened!

During his MC, Kentaro (Ex-Vocal CRYSTAL LAKE) said : « Thank You for inviting us and Congrats to CRYSTAL LAKE for 15th Anniversary! [...] 10 years ago, CRYSTAL LAKE could applied to the audition for the TASTE OF CHAOS in Live at Studio Coast. I’m thankful to be able to come back here for this event and to kill again this place with my songs. Let’s have fun all together today! I come here to conclude my memories of the past ». We can feel today like the achievement and the beginning of something new again for the band. Yudai (Gt. CRYSTAL LAKE ~Current & Former Member~) said : « After 15 years, this is the day to link the past and the present of CRYSTAL LAKE! ». So during the song「Into the Great Beyong」, Ryo (Vo. CRYSTAL LAKE) came on stage. « Now, the past and the present of CRYSTAL LAKE are linked ». The 2 vocalists roaring together, the past and the present of CRYSTAL LAKE, making one on stage.

Everybody was sweating, screaming and couldn’t stop to dive on the crowd during the songs. There were a lot of mosh pit, dangerous and violent mosh pit ; I thought that the level of security was probably forgotten by everyone!(Laugh). And by the band itself!(Laugh) Kentaro (Ex-Vocal CRYSTAL LAKE) took off his shirt, showing his sweating body like a warrior! And during the last song 「The burder」, YUDAI (Gt. CRYSTAL LAKE) climbed on the speakers before to jump on the crowd into the pit! It was a really hot atmosphere making me think to war scenes. For CRYSTAL LAKE, the place is coherent, Studio Coast. In the past, they played at « Rockstar Taste Of Chaos In Japan 2007 » where many bands were playing and won the audition, playing for the first time on the stage of the Studio Coast. It’s exactly the same thing for the bands Graupel, Sable Hills and A Ghost of Flare who appeared on the Festival « ROAD TO THE TRUE NORTH » heading by CRYSTAL LAKE and won.

________ « Well, it’s the Final Show now! It’s time to do it! It’s time to do it NOW! Let’s burn it out! Let’s go! » says Ryo. They started with「The Fire Inside」. Immediately, the crowd was compressed naturally towards the front of the pit, diving from all directions, making noise like a storm from the beginning and singing the long part « We are not the fucking dead » rushing to Ryo (Vo. Crystal Lake) as target, the bright stage lighting the silhouette of Ryo emiting an aura like an hero. Ryo screams « Let’s go crazier again! » before to start「Prometheus」. With the influence of Ryo, the biggest Circle Pit of the day was formed, spinning as speed as to mow everything down. Before the break, Ryo makes a second call « Let’s make a fucking mess! », and the Circle Pit was suddenly transformed into a dangerous zone like windmills by repeated occurrence. Then, Ryo with his distinctive characteristic makes a low break with his Guttural Voice, hitting the ground of the venue with a violent sound. « Are you ready to fly? Let’s shake the Shinkiba everyone! » persists Ryo, continuing to influence the crowd, before to introduce「Matrix」. On the jointly bounce of the members together, the jump of the audience didn’t stop too, like shaking the bottom of the hell, the heat and the vibrations inside the venue didn’t show any sign of weakness. Ryo says « Well, do not rest, put your hands in the air everyone! Clap your hands!» encouraging the audience, in a flash starting to play「Mercury」. « You have long waited for, together with Hiro! » screams Ryo ; Hiro (Vo. SHADOWS) came on stage. So after the confrontation with Ryo, Hiro jumped into the audience by himself, the audience singing alone, piling on like a mountain. « We are CRYSTAL LAKE! Welcome to the True North Festival! It’s time again for a break. But you don’t need it anymore, right? » asks Ryo to the audience, an enthusiastic acclamation cheers the audience coming from all directions in the venue. « Do you want more? So we gonna give it to you! » says Ryo, and the audience’s cheers were immediately doubled and loud. Ryo says « CRYSTAL LAKE REUNION, I think that is a proof of history. I didn’t make a mistake walking like this for 15 years, I was really 100% confident today. Whether 15 years ago, 10 years ago, 5 years ago, or now, we are CRYSTAL LAKE. This is our way of life, this is our way of death. To die during a Live, this is a long cherished ambition and it will be a satisfaction. I will prove that the song I will play next will be the best song for the TRUE NORTH FESTIVAL! » and as the result, the blast beat explosion from Gaku (Dr. CRYSTAL LAKE), combining static and dynamic, the masterpiece「True North」started. Due to the overwhelming speed of the songs, many people dive into the crowd, and the human tsunami happened many times. « I said it in various places, I don’t feel like telling you anymore but, here today from CRYSTAL LAKE REUNION and through all bands, now everything is gathered at this moment. Do you understand? Beyond time of the past and the future, everything is aggregated into this one song. We can cross any boundary, look at this scenery, I thought it today. Beyond everything, I’m gonna give you an amazing playground. Once again, would you mind letting me do the new song? » Screams Ryo, playing the new song「Apollo」just released this month. The atmospheric guitar phrase makes like a floating feeling emerging from Yudai (Lead Guitar CRYSTAL LAKE), the super extra heavy low tone riff from Shinya (Rhythm Guitar CRYSTAL LAKE) intertwine each others, the logic and true meaning of the words of Ryo, the playground of the New Era is now in progress. Ryo says « Finally, our ideal heavy music festival was born here. Really, I didn’t think that those who like this noisy music can gather here. Thank you so much. I really thought that this kind of music will become a Japanese culture. », the inside of the venue was wrapped up in the applause. Successively, « CRYSTAL LAKE and Studio Coast, there is a history of fate, everybody’s know, right? CRYSTAL LAKE won the audition at the event called TASTE OF CHAOS on the stage of Shinkiba Studio Coast. From here, various Live performances came back here. There was also a downpour, asking for a thunderstorm, it really happened (laugh). But unfortunately, it’s raining today too. I didn’t really know what will happen today. But today is our event so please, do it as you like everyone. » concludes Ryo. « Amazing. I don’t say it because it’s really usual but, I came here with a lot of thinking, everyone who came here, people who support us as STAFF now, to those who support this Live, I’m truly thankful, Thank you so much to everyone. I became an adult. Also, to thank everyone of CRYSTAL LAKE’s team is necessary for doing it. I didn’t say it before in front of everyone, but let me say it today. And thank you to all the bands who came performing for us today, I’m thoroughly respecting them. And, thanks to everyone who is standing here, seriously. From this place, I wanna be able to change Japanese music, CRYSTAL LAKE’s music, I really think that today is that day. What I wanted to say is that way. I think that people are linked all together. » said Yudai (Gt. CRYSTAL LAKE) in his friendly, sincerely and victorious MC. Then, Ryo said « It’s interesting that those who don’t know us be connected by the music, this music, supported by each others, because I think that we are able to do it, so let’s have fun all together! A new history will start from today, do you know? Today, you are in the new history of Japanese Music. Be aware of it. CRYSTAL LAKE has been in danger to broke up many times during 15 years. I thought of quitting again and again, but now, I’m still standing on stage. I think I will continue again. In that way I’m covered all over with scars, one step, again one step, I will walk a step further, as proof of our scars. ». And they start「Black and Blue」. In the lyrics of Black and Blue, he often mentions the « scars » , and on the way of the song, Ryo takes a pose like repented on stage, he looks like a Saint. The Live came into the last part with「Beloved」. On the way, Kenta (Vo. CROSSFAITH) came on stage as guest appearance, screaming with a fierce shout. The silhouette of Koie confronting Ryo was like a dark hero who looked dashing, the current Japanese loud scene where tiger and dragon were fighting. « It’s not what I want! Everybody, the only thing I wanna see is to do it stronger! » screams Ryo, starting 「Omega」. While the waves of divers was going on, Ryo himself jumped into the crowd, resisted to the human waves who couldn’t stop to scream. Yudai dive into the crowd at the end too, and the final part ends in that way. However, the cheers inside the venue didn’t stop ringing, and answering to the ENCORE of the audience, the members appeared on stage again. ENCORE « Do you know who’s here today? I’m gonna call a special guest. The son of Satan, Hayato (Vo. MEANING). » Ryo called Hayato (Vo. MEANING) to come on stage, one of the best historic and heinous song was played, 「Hades」. On the way, MAKOTO (Vo. SAND) appeared as guest too, 3 devils were standing on stage. « Aaah, let’s do it no matter what! » asks Ryo to the audience, the appearance of Mosh Pit showed for sure the best picture of hell of the day. For the second ENCORE, « This is the song linking the past and the future of CRYSTAL LAKE! » screams Ryo, before to start「Twisted Fate」. Not to mention the excitement level of the crowd, a storm of divers comes from all directions in the venue. From here, the inside of the Studio Coast has been definitively united. At the end of the song, the Ex-Vocal Kentaro appeared as guest, the past and the present of CRYSTAL LAKE is now linked on stage, expressing the wishes for the future, TRUE NORTH FESTIVAL closed the curtain. The last word of Ryo was : « This is CRYSTAL LAKE! ». This must be summarized into a single word. In a word, CRYSTAL LAKE is a chaotic band, both static and dynamic, wrapping up an intense part flowing like a waterfall. Even now 15 years have passed, the bottom of their hearts, the depth of their universe and their ultimate goal are immeasurable. Congrats again to CRYSTAL LAKE for 15th Anniversary. I’m so proud to have been part of CRYSTAL LAKE’s history. Let’s write together a new chapter of CRYSTAL LAKE’s history from now. Because I live for days like those. Every time I see CRYSTAL LAKE is like the first time all over again, because I love CRYSTAL LAKE so much.
